How To Cure Exfoliative Cheilitis
Exfoliative cheilitis is a medical condition where the lips crust over and peel dead skin in a continuous, never-ending cycle. This disease has not been thoroughly studied by doctors or scientists and yet has already been deemed ‘incurable’ by the medical community..
Disclaimer: This information about Exfoliative Cheilitis is not to be taken as medical advice. Remember, always consult your doctor if you are changing your diet, exercise program or if you want to try any health supplements. Only your doctor can diagnose and treat your disease, so be a good little Guinea pig and go see him! Affiliate links may be hosted on this site. If your serious about curing exfoliative cheilitis do yourself a favor, take 1 hour and read this entire post from top to bottom, don’t skim through and don’t skip sections, every part is important.

Its always best to get a disease diagnosed by your doctor. However if you suffer from lips that peel, flake or crust dead skin which piles up and peels every few days in a never ending cycle than it’s pretty safe to say you have exfoliative cheilitis. If you get slimy, nasty white lips after drinking water then once again you probably have exfoliative cheilitis.
Exfoliative cheilitis is a medical condition in which the lips build up a layer of dead skin and then peel off as seen in the pictures of exfoliative cheilitis found below:

If you want to see just how bad exfoliative cheilitis can get take a look at the curezone peeling lips image gallery but be warned some of the images are pretty bad.
Here’s where it gets to the difficult and unfortunate part.. changing your lifestyle. It would be great if your body could heal disease while living the average American lifestyle but as you will soon learn it takes massive lifestyle changes.

It’s important that you understand the key points to how your body works and also that many people are living in a state of disease without even knowing it.
Understand that germs, viruses and bacteria don’t really cause disease, in fact these seemingly scary things are for the most part no danger to you at all if you are in good health. Its only when your body is in the weakened state of disease that these germs and viruses can really get you sick.
For those interested in understanding human healing mechanisms please look into ‘natural hygiene‘. Natural hygiene is a set of principles which when applied to your life will help you achieve optimal well-being, vibrant energy and freedom from disease, it also happens to be one of the most effective, heavily imitated health systems on earth!
- Illness will not ever develop in your body without a root-cause. There is always a reason why things happen; a disease like exfoliative cheiltis is no different. When you violate your body by subjecting it to negative factors symptoms of illness (peeling lips as an example) will result.
- Acute illness is effective healing – chronic disease is a later form of degeneration. This means that when you get a common cold, or the flu, or an itchy rash your body is working to heal and remedy itself, these symptoms are really just signs of detoxification. If you suffer from a chronic, persistent disease like cheilitis, eczema or asthma it means you are messing up your body faster than it can heal itself so the state of disease continues to degenerate your system.
- A disease can never be cured by poisons – only the body can heal itself. Pharmaceutical companies have admitted that their drugs don’t heal patients because the fact is only the body can heal itself. Drugs simply hide and over up symptoms. Your body is always working to achieve perfect health and is designed to heal by nature, without external influence, the human body has built in healing mechanisms that will do all the healing for us if we simply take the burden of poor lifestyle choices off of it.
Improper diet, long term stress and other problems add to your bodies state of disease and depress your immune system which leads to peeling. That is why you can notice more skin buildup so soon after getting angry or eating an improper meal; it’s because these things will bog down the immune system almost instantly which in turn causes the peeling reaction on the lips.
Chronic disease occurs when acute symptoms such as occasional stomach pain or heartburn carry on for long periods of time unchecked without the root cause of the problem being fixed. After ignoring acute symptoms for long periods of time the body is overloaded and chronic disease sets in, at this point your body slowly goes through the seven stages of disease unless you remove the root cause of the problem and allow your body time to heal.
When you ask “why don’t my lips stop peeling” it is no different than someone who asks why their acne or eczema won’t go away, the answer is almost always the same. Your body is trying to heal itself but your are not allowing it to do so, the root problem still remains and therefore the disease does as well.

Follow this diet perfectly for 1-2 weeks… at that point you can start cheating and changing things around a bit. Don’t quit until you are able to slow and stop the peeling cycle.
***YOU MUST EAT MINIMUM 50% RAW, UNCOOKED FRUITS & VEGETABLES EACH DAY***
Once you take the burden off your digestive and immune systems you will see the condition start to clear up (depending how closely you follow everything) and you will have a much better understanding of how ‘trigger foods’ affect the peeling cycle.
Remember – no cheating, do it properly for at least a couple of weeks and if you feel you can’t follow because its too tough for you… you need to stop whining,, you lack discipline! ![]()
Example 1 Week Grocery List (All these foods are HIGHLY recommended, it’s my exact diet)
- 8 Bananas
- 8 Apples (or pears)
- 2 Mangoes
- 4-5 Kiwis
- 2 Large bags of grapes
- 4 Packs of broccoli
- 5 Large cucumbers
- 1 Pack of celery
- 1 Medium ginger root
- 1-2 Cloves of garlic
- 3-4 Large onions
- 1 Bag of brown, long whole grain rice
- Small bag of quinoa (optional)
- Bag of 14 grain bread (optional)
- 1 Small, ocean caught, fresh salmon fillet
- 1 High quality chicken breast or leg
- 1 Pack of large high quality eggs (eat lots of eggs)
- Buy 1 large jar of *extra virgin cold pressed organic* coconut oil. (IMPORTANT)
- Fresh Herbs & Seasonings are OK
- Most Organic Sauces are OK
- Natural soy sauce and teriyaki etc are OK
- Read Ingredients Make Sure There’s No Chemicals (calories are unimportant..)
Everything should be high quality but especially the bread, eggs, meat and sauces.
THAT’S THE DIET – SUPER BASIC!!! Diet needs to be your main concern because trigger foods depress the immune system leading to flare ups and over time layers of peeling skin.
Overeating, eating junk food, binge eating, allergic reactions to food, indigestion, eating improper food combination’s, eating foods that are chemically laced, too acidic and not drinking enough clean, fresh water are other problems that fall into the diet category.
This specialized diet that will not only provide your body with all essential vitamins and nutrients but also take the digestive and toxic burden off your body and allow you to heal yourself. Its important not to stray from to diet until the peeling has slowed down completely, once this happens to you can start slowly introducing new foods into your diet and test if they cause peeling skin.
Don’t worry about buying organic foods or expensive supplements unless your bank account can take the hit, these things should be the least of your worries if your diet isn’t straight.
Buy fresh groceries 1-2 times throughout the week so you can re-stock on fresh foods.

What to drink throughout the day:
- LOTS of Water (filtered or tap) – Don’t drink too much bottled water
- Freshly squeezed juice
- Green Tea (1-2 cups per day maximum)
Not Feeling Hungry When You Wake Up? If your feeling bloated don’t eat breakfast right away instead drink a couple glasses of water and do a quick workout or go jogging. Ideally you should eat your last meal or snack 2-3 hours before bed so you are hungry right away in the morning. Eat fruit for the next few of hours and later load up on eggs on multi-grain bread, rice and vegetables or rice and eggs.
Example dietary schedule:
- 8:00 am – Drink 2-3 glasses of water (immediately upon rising)
- 8:15 am – Eat 2 of the same kind of fruit (Breakfast)
- 9:00 am – Drink 1 glass of juice (homemade juice)
- 10:15 am – Eat 1 more serving of fruit of your choice(Snack)
- 11:00 am – Drink 1 more glass of water if thirsty
- 11:45 am – Eat more fruit if still hungry (only alternatives: celery, cucumber)
- 12:15 pm – Drink 1 more glass of water
- 1:15 pm – Eat fish, chicken or eggs with mixed vegetables and rice (Lunch)
- 3:45 pm – Serving of veggies or have a small salad (Mid-day snack)
- 6:00 pm – Eat grain food + mixed vegetables (Dinner)
- 7:30 pm – Drink 1-2 glasses of water
- 8:15 pm – Eat some veggies or have a salad (Last meal of day)
- 10:45 pm – Drink 1 glass of water (30-40 minutes before sleeping)
Remember not to overeat, this is to be used as a basic outline not something you follow 100%. Obviously you have a life, a job, responsibilities etc and can’t follow it to the word. That’s OK. I added extra meals so nobody can complain they are starving to death. Ideally you should eat multiple small meals throughout the day with lots of water in between each meal but try not to drink while eating (weakens digestion).
MORE IMPORTANT STUFF YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- Overeating will ruin your progress – It’s best to eat small meals 5-6 times a day. If you overload your digestive system by eating too much in 1 shot you will depress your immune system and it will increase the amount of skin that will build up and peel later.
- Don’t eat if your not hungry – Remember that you do not have to eat as much food as is listed above, you want to only eat when your hungry. Try to build up an appetite by working out, doing breathing exercises and putting in some hard work at your job! If you wake up in the morning and your stomach feels bad and your not hungry than don’t eat until you are. Remember you still want to continue drinking water regardless of if you are hungry or not.
- Don’t eat at least 2+ hours before bed – Only eat light foods before bed and try not to eat them too close to the time when you sleep.
- Water in between meals: Your blood and even your vital organs like lungs and brain are mainly composed of water. Water keeps all your cells working as they should and keeps the food moving throughout the digestive system efficiently.
- Eat in proper food combination’s: Avoid eating foods together that wreak havoc to your insides: pizza, burgers, microwave dinners yogurt & fruit, sandwiches, spaghetti, steak and potatoes, etc..
- Remember if you are eating bad foods often it will slow your digestion, depress your immune system and ultimately lead to peeling lips and cause other symptoms as well.
- Fry or steam vegetables very lightly if you decide to do so at all
- Only use stainless steel or cast iron cookware (none of that Teflon crap)
- Limit the amount of seasonings you use
- Do not use any overly hot & spicy powders or sauces
- Limit portions of meat, eat lots of grains with more raw vegetables
- Use as much coconut oil as you want, eat 4-5 tablespoons of it throughout the day
Food combining chart courtesy of The Wolfe Clinic visit them for full sized image.
Your body is not designed to eat certain foods together. Try eating these poor food combination’s if you don’t think it affects digestion: fruit and meat or yogurt and meat, yogurt and noodles, fruit and rice then wait 5 minutes and see how your stomach reacts. That may be an extreme example but it goes to show food combining is real; your body doesn’t like certain foods together.
Your meal at lunch or dinner should be the one where you eat some kind of protein dish (either salmon, chicken or eggs). You can prepare this is pretty much any way you like as long as you only use stuff listed on the grocery list. Good options are salmon, brown rice with lots of mixed vegetables or maybe a chicken stir-fry, perhaps eggs on organic bread with vegetables on the side are all good options.
Remember to keep portions of meat or protein relatively small, eat as much rice and vegetables as you want. Your protein meal should be made up of around 20% meat, 35% grains 45% vegetables.. this is good balance.
- ALTERNATIVE DIET THAT SHOULD WORK AS WELL
Want to try an alternative diet that looks very promising?
Although this diet is still untested it was created by the super-genius Dr. Shelton so it’s got to work well. You should definitely use a lot of the advice found in this blog post in combination with Dr. Sheltons diet. For example still use coconut oil instead of olive oil when cooking and follow all the lifestyle changes as well. Please report your results if you try this diet protocol and let us know if it stopped the peeling in the comments section.
Dr. Shelton Diet Program

Stress is an unavoidable factor. Once the diet changes kick in and the peeling cycle slows you need to be able to stop obsessing over your lips and get back on track.

Find a hobby, do things you enjoy, hang out with friends and family, go out for drinks just make sure you stay social, have fun and blow off steam.

When you sleep your body regenerates, heals and stores the days memories among many other things. While sleeping your digestive system shuts down almost completely and your body goes into the same state as a person who is fasting. Normally when awake over 30% of your bodies energy is allocated to tasks related to the digestive system, on the other hand when sleeping your digestive system shuts down, this means your body is free to use this energy on healing itself.
Solution: Get minimum 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep per night.

A high percentage of people in the USA, Canada and UK are shallow breathers – this means they don’t fully expand and contract their diaphragm while breathing. Many people with exfoliative cheilitis are reportedly not only shallow breathers but also mouth breathers as well. These breathing patterns are not normal and unfortunately are a major contributor to anxiety and disease.
Solution:Stand straight, pushing out your stomach and chest, keep your chin high, take slow deep breaths in through your nose. Focus on fully expanding and contracting your diaphragm and breathing with your stomach as well. Working your abs and doing lots of cadio can have a great effect on your breathing as well.

Exercise keeps anxiety away, increases confidence, normalizes breathing patterns and increases blood circulation. Exercise also stimulates your muscles and internal organs, increase libido and sexual performance, speeds up detoxification, increases flexibility along with about 10 000 other benefits.

Exercise minimum 3 days a week and with in a few weeks you should start feeling stronger and more balanced. Remember that when your body is in a state of sickness you never want to fully drain your bodies vital energy by heavy lifting until failure, if you insist on hitting the weights at the gym lift low or medium weight and do at least 10 repetitions.
Do lots of abdominal training and cardiovascular exercises. This will help your digestion, strengthen your diaphragm and increase immunity and lung capacity.
Solution: Do lots of cardiovascular exercise mixed with abdominal training, soccer, hockey, boxing, martial arts any other high intensity sports are very highly recommended! Women can do yoga, dancing, jogging, pilates etc.

-Vaccines cause autoimmune disease and inflammation (ie stay the hell away from them)
-Pharmaceutical drugs lower your immunity and make EC worse (accutane as 1 example of many..)
-Anything that lowers immunity worsen the peeling cycle so boost your immune system

Why exactly is pork bad for your diet?
Hi spiffy,
Why not to eat pork:
1. Many religious texts advise against eating it.
2. Pigs are ‘bottom feeders’ and will eat just about anything including dead rotting corpses (see movie Snatch), worms, maggots, feces and even cancerous tumors off other pigs.
3. Anything a pig eats does not get properly assimilated and digested. Any filth that they eat passes quickly through their digestive tract and becomes toxic meat on their bones.
4. Pigs meat gives you the ‘itis’ (see Dave Chappelle).
5. Increased risk of parasitic infection.
Check Google for more info, there are way more reasons.
Cheers.
I went grocery shopping today. How fast it was with your list! The only thing I could not find at the regular grocery store was quinoa. Do you eat quinoa by itself? The coconut oil was new at the grocery store so the cashier thanked me for finding it since she wants to cook shrimp in it. She said she cooks her chicken in its own juice. Is the coconut oil more for cooking vegetables or chicken?
Quinoa is a great alternative to rice, you cook it in the same way. It’s a ’superfood’ meaning it contains all kinds essential vitamins and minerals. Very good for bodybuilders, sports players and active people in general.
Best of all quinoa is a complete protein and contains all essential amino acids we need for proper tissue development.
Hope you like the coconut oil, usually it has a neutral taste you can use it like any other kind of oil. Did you get the organic cold pressed one?
This was the only one at the grocery store. LouAna Pure Coconut Oil by Venture Foods, 0 grams Trans Fat. It states on the label that it replaces butter, margarine, and cooking oil. I wonder if you can spread it on bread like butter. Or if it tastes like butter. It has 14g of total fat, 12g of saturated fat, and 1g of monounsaturated fat.
Sorry to tell you that brand is no good, that one is very processed. You have to get it from the health food store or in the health food section of the supermarket with the organic foods. A while back I bought a huge $60 bucket on eBay.. it lasted about 8-10 months. Organic isn’t all that important except for certain things, coconut oil being on of them, if its processed it doesn’t have any of the health enhancing properties that you are looking for, everything gets stripped in the extraction processing.
My brand is Omega Nutrition Certified Organic Coconut Oil. You always need to research the company and make sure it the oil is extracted by the cold processed extraction process, also it absolutely has to be certified organic.
Nutiva makes great coconut oil. If your into buying online I recommend Iherb.com, they have everything cheaper than the health food store, my only problem is that shipping takes a week to get to Canada.

Amazon.com has a good selection of Cold pressed organic coconut oil as well:
To answer your question coconut oil is solid when stored in the fridge, soft like butter when at room temperature and liquid when heated.
Shelf life is about 10 years without preservatives because of it amazing natural chemical properties.
can’t wait to try this. there are soooo many rules but I think I can probably do it.
thansk for the write up mate! its certainly a help
How do you break open a coconut?
I’m going to do this. it doesn’t seem so hard! ~~
This diet looks very healthy and similar to the alkaline diet.
Thank you for sharing this.
I will try everything but the coconuts. Although I bought a coconut with premade sawline, it still did not easily crack open when I whacked it all around with a hammer. Someone else had to whack it very hard, and the coconut milk flew all over the place. It was good experience to try to open one, though.
thanks for the comments everyone.
to open a coconut just whack it against a thick concrete wall until you see a thin crack. you then go into the kitchen put the coconut in a bowl, stick a knife into the crack and turn. this should make all the coconut milk drain into the bowl. from there you just hit it with a hammer to break it into pieces.
also remember to take off the thin layer of brown skin from the flesh of the coconut.
hope that helps,
cheers.
wow, just about everything I eat (white flour, sugar etc) I’m not allowed to anymore?! That’s very scary yet eye opening at the same time.
THANK YOU!!!
Breaking open a coconut is too much trouble for me to do on a regular basis. Must you eat coconut for this to work? Can you substitute it for something else or buy coconut flakes instead?
Hi, coconuts aren’t 100% required but are super healthy so I recommend eating them a couple times a week. You can substitute it with other fruit as long as they are on the list above.
No coco flakes, that falls into the processed food category! Anything like that is stripped of all the good stuff you want from the food and not only that its also loaded with additives and preservatives..
First off I applaud you for taking the time to do this and I wish you nothing but the best. But I have to ask how you’ve come to the conclusion that this is the “definitive cure?” As I’m sure you’re well aware from other forums that there have been numerous products/diets/etc that have worked for some people and yet have no affect on others. Why is this different?
Hello, firstly thanks for the kind words and also for taking the time to comment and stating your concerns!
I want everyone to know the word ‘cure’ is based on lies and shady marketing ploys, the truth is only the body can heal itself. People are brainwashed into thinking cures are possible when in reality they aren’t. Your body healing itself is the only ‘cure’ that will work.
No drug can cure.
No pill can cure.
No supplement can cure.
No topical treatment can cure.
The real word for CURE is to HEAL. This is because you are only really cured if your body heals itself completely.
I was just debating this with someone over PM, here is an excerpt I think will help get my point across:
“BUT what is a ‘CURE’ do you mean cure the symptom or cure the bodies state of disease? You still don’t realize its your ENTIRE BODY that is in a state of disease, the problem is not only your lips….
Please remember that only the body can heal itself. Drugs might ‘cure’ the symptom but wont EVER remove the state of chronic disease from the body, they will only add to it.”
Also this is not a ‘definitive cure’, that expression was just link bait. There might be other causes but the way to address disease remains the same. This way to deal with disease will work because it removes almost all major causes of disease therefore allowing the body to heal itself. On rare occasion someones tooth fillings or some weird thing may be causing toxemia and heavy metal poisoning causing peeling lips, in this case my ‘cure’ will probably slow peeling but will not stop it until the root cause is fixed.
Here’s an example: If you have cancer and remove the root cause the cancer goes away. This is a cure as long as the cancer is 100% gone and your entire body is healthy again.
On the other hand if you go for chemotherapy and get radiation treatment you may kill the cancer but you have also destroyed your immune system thereby progressing your bodies state of disease. Is this really a cure for cancer..? The cancer is gone but your body is still in a state of chronic disease. The answer: no, this is not a cure you only eliminated a symptom of disease, your body remains unhealthy and sick.
Also want to note I ‘cured’ more than just my peeling lips by following those rules. Chronic fatigue, eczema, asthma, allergies are all symptoms of disease I USED to suffer from (but not anymore =D)
Conclusion: address your body as a whole. If you have chronic illness in any point of your body you must realize its your entire body that’s in a state of disease not just that one problem area. Find and eliminate the root cause (98% chance its listed above)and the disease will go away.
I was just curious how long after the diet change it took for them to heal? Thanks for all the advice and info too!
Hi britgal, if you are able to follow everything very closely and make all these huge lifestyle changes you should see the peeling cycle slow greatly by around 1 week and maybe even stop completely by week 3-4. However, if any irritants remain in your diet than progress will be brutally slow and your lips will continue to peel.
Hi,
I realised that on your daily eating schedule, there is only one lunch meal in the afternoon containing protein and grains. would it make much difference if i had another protein meal later in the evening?
i am a person who loves food although i am quite slim. this is going to be a challenge for me but I am going to follow ths plan.
I just wonder if you lost weight by following it? because i am trying to put on the weight. :s
Eating meat 4x per week and eggs the other 3 days is very important. Meat puts a huge toll of the digestive system so you will have to put some strict limits on your consumption just for now. Remember to keep portions of meat reasonably sized. You can eat rice or quinoa 2x per day, the portion you have with meat needs to be small but the portion you have with vegetables only can be larger.
The reason the protein/grain meal is eaten around 1pm is just because its the only improper food combination in the diet and requires the most energy to digest. If you want you could swap it with the grain/vegetable meal just make 100% sure you don’t eat heavy protein at least 4 hours before sleeping.
This diet is perfect for people trying to build lean muscle mass, if you start working out your body will respond very well. It’s good for people who want that ripped/lean/shredded look. If your more into building bulk/mass you will have to wait a while (at least until your lips are better) to start training high intensity low repetition (max 6-8 reps per set) weight training. At that point you will need to increase food intake as well and that’s too strenuous for now – your body needs time to heal so just do light cardio/breathing exercises and abdominal work and focus on breaking a sweat everyday and getting a cut up 6 pack for the beach this summer. Ladies like ripped more than bulk anyways =D
I should be doing some updates on the blog soon I just haven’t had time recently. Updates will explain breathing exercises, working out in detail and good alternatives to unhealthy foods.
Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers.
I saw a Dermatologist today, and asked him about changing my diet. He told me that food had nothing to do with what was going on. But at the same time he couldn’t fully explain to me what was wrong with me. He also prescribed me some cream to but on my lips “Hydocortisone Butyrate Cream, 0.1%” and then told me it would only take two week to heal. He also said, “sorry you had to live with this for two years” as if I’m going to be cured by the cream
Should I completely disregard what the doctor has told me?
And is it safe to use the cream along with all the steps in your blog?
Hi Nate, the choice is yours. I’m really going to have to bite my tongue on this one. To avoid legal troubles like having my blog closed down I have to say ‘always listen to your doctor’. I can’t tell you not to take a medication if a doctor prescribed it, remember that as per the disclaimer I don’t give medical advice. Just please make sure you do some research for yourself, check the side effects and make sure its safe for how ever long you are planning to use it for.
If you have any questions concerning the diet, workout, breathing exercises or anything ‘non-medical’ I’d be more than happy to help! Cheers
Thanks for the response. I definitely wouldn’t want your blog to be closed, I think it shows more promise than anything else out there about healing this condition. I’m currently a college student, and everything said on the blog makes way more sense to me than what the doctor had to say. I think I’m going to stick with your plan for a weeks, bag the cream and see what happens!
I’ve been wondering if organic rolled oats are okay to eat in place of rice every now and then?
Also about hygiene in the bathroom. do you brush teeth with regular toothpaste (i.e. Colgate, or Crest), use regular deodorant and regular soap?. Just curious if any of that stuff affects the way the body heals.
I also have started to keep track of the food I buy, the days I exercise, and a photo everyday to see if improvement has occurred. Which is something I would like to post if I see my desired results.
Thanks Again, You’re awesome!
I tried eating rolled oats for a while and it seemed to have a negative impact on my lips. But I think it might be more what I was adding to the oats that caused problems rather than the oats themselves. Usually I would add fruit (bad food combination) or lots of sugar (depresses immune system, leads to peeling). If you eat the oats plain I guess it would be ok but that would probably suck because it would have a very plain taste.
What I recommend you try is only eating what is listed in the above diet at first and once you see improvement you will better understand how your body (more specifically your digestive system and lips) react to the foods you eat. Its taken me a very long time to realize what foods cause skin buildup. Once your at that point you can try very slowly adding foods to the diet and see if it causes peeling and inflammation to return, if not then you can keep eating them.
As for dental hygiene I use this fluoride free toothpaste:
I also use a tongue scraper to remove nasty buildup off the tongue:
Thai Deodorant Spray:

Stuff like fluoride in toothpaste and aluminum in deodorants is just more crap your body has to deal with, its definitely best to avoid. The tongue scraper pulls all kinds of nasty buildup off your tongue and freshens breath.
I’m really glad your going full force trying to heal yourself and recording your progress along the way! Seeing successful before and after pics other than my own will make this whole blog worth the effort!
Few more questions for ya.
Based on the data at “http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/vegetables-and-vegetable-products/2446/2″ garlic and onions are anti-inflammatory. Do they help or should they be avoided?
What herbs do you recommend if any? ( such as fresh oregano & basil leaves, etc.)
And are kidney beans and pinto beans okay?
And can kale be used in place of romaine lettuce?
That’s it for now. I haven’t been able to follow everything exactly yet, it’s gonna take some time to develop these new habits, but it’s only been a few days and I can notice the difference it makes. I’ve started watching this yoga DVD my girlfriend has, it’s pretty crazy, I never though I’d be doing yoga, but it seems like it’s going to help with breathing properly and clearing my mind.
Why should milk be eliminated from my diet? I drink 6 or 7 glasses a day so I’m curious
I want to add ginger to the question above concerning garlic and onions. Can you also eat fresh ginger?
What do you think of coconut milk?
@NATE: haha loved the yoga part, that gave me a good laugh!
it should definitely help. I like doing stomach vacuums and certain breathing positions. I’m going to do a quick update on the blog tonight and explain more about how to do them.
As for garlic and onions they are OK but MUST be cooked first. Same goes with ginger. If they are eaten raw it will cause irritation to the intestinal lining which leads to flare ups.
Just about all common fresh cooking herbs should be ok (to my knowledge).
I wish you the best of luck bro. I know first hand its not easy to adapt to a healthy lifestyle but is well worth it in the end!
@Robbert, hi thanks for the question:
1) Milk is bad for people with weak digestion
2) Milk is mucous forming
3) Milk contains all kinds of bad synthetic hormones and other toxic crap
4) Milk is mixed with puss and blood because the machines that milk the cows suck so hard! This is supposedly later ‘cleaned’ by pasteurization *yuck*
5) Milk is pasteurized aka dead meaning no use to your body from a nutritional standpoint. It also means its much harder to digest.
6) Calcium from milk cannot be assimilated and used by the body..
7) You are probably lactose intolerant without even knowing
This just about sums it up:
http://www.notmilk.com/kradjian.html
http://www.formerfatguy.com/articles/dont-drink-milk.asp
Almond milk or other ‘nut milk’ like coconut milk will be ok if you are making it fresh from home.
@Anonymus
Ginger is ok as long as it is cooked (at least lightly for a couple minutes)
Coconut milk I would pass on unless its fresh out of a coconut or you make it yourself. If it comes out of a can or bottle its a definite no go.
If you have any other question, let me know. Cheers
…What about cold pressed olive oil as a substitute for coconut oil…I HATE coconuts
How’s everyone doing who have been following all of the diet instructions?
Hi Sonrise, organic cold pressed coconut oil has a very neutral taste. In fact is takes the flavor of the food your cooking and enhances it.
Olive oil is a much more crude oil and doesn’t have nearly the amount of health enhancing effects as coconut oil in fact in many ways olive oil is detrimental to your health.
@anonymus – I’m dying to hear some results as well! Unfortunately my expectations are low; not of the protocol not working but my faith in people to follow it properly..
Please someone prove me wrong
BTW, Sorry about the layout problems, Wordpress is a disaster.. I’m working on fixing everything slowly
Hello,i have EC for about ten years now and a few years after i got it i got very ill.Read my post on exfoliative cheilitis forum for my story. I am so sick that my question is would this diet even help me ?? please read my story first at the forum ty.
@Blahbla Hi, I read your story. I used to suffer from chronic fatigue as well, yes the diet will help give it a shot!
Thought I’d post my progress so far, because my lips have definitely been improving. Keep in mind that I haven’t healed 100% yet, I just wanted to share what I’ve been doing.
I started on June 23rd, and for the most part I followed the diet plan for almost 3 weeks {if you want to see my grocery list just email me at burnettnk@yahoo.com and I can send you an excel spreedsheet}.
I also have done a little research myself on natural hygiene and found out that it is best to eat all your fruits, vegetables, and nuts raw. Cooked and roasted food contains all the same nutrients but it doesn’t contain live enzymes, so your body has to use it’s own enzymes to digest and process the food. If you eat raw, your body has less work to do because you preserve your own enzymes, which allows your body to heal!
Anyways, I’ve been doing the breathing exercises everyday for at least 10 minutes, and doing some type of Cardio workout at least 3 times a week.
Here’s the pics starting with the day before I started the meal plan, then at day 7, and then at day 22.
6-22-10 (day before started meal plan)
6-29-10 (Day 7 of new diet plan)
7-13-10 (3 weeks after changing diet and doing breathing exercises)
My lips used to look much worst than in the pictures. It wasn’t until about 5 months ago that I started trying to eat healthy or what I though was healthy anyway. The change helped a little, but not much. The main difference with this plan was the elimination of dairy products, eating raw vegetables, and about 2 to 3 times more fruits than what I was eating before, along with trying to reduce stress.
Unforunately, I’ve wasn’t been able to stick with it over the weekend while I went camping. After eating a bunch of garbage I’m sure they will peel in the next few days.
But I do plan on following everything all the way through in the months to come and hopefully my lips/body will completely heal.
…Uh, not sure how to post the pics yet.
Nate, Thanks so much for your input. I will be e-mailing you for your shopping list. Sounds like this may be the way to go for you. I plan to start in the fall (including cooking with coconut oil…yuck!)….so, hopefully, more comments and input will be posted on this website as people try to eat better, exercise (I use wiifit yoga and cardio) and get better.
@Admin or Nate. A couple of questions:
I do make a shake with organic rice milk, bananas and hope this will work (since rice is o.k.)? I’ll eliminate the goat powder (Goatein) I currently add. I don’t see any way of making my own milk at home….no cracking coconuts for me.
I drink Genesis Today brand Acai Berry Juice…o.k. or do I need to juice my own fruit juice?
I have yet to read the two links you posted, Admin., but will.
NO SUGAR….AAAAAAAAAAAA! I can see this will be a process for me
Thanks for preparing this link…I hope more will input comments and questions.
If you would like to see my progress, you’ll have to copy and paste the direct link into your address bar, or simply click on the link (if it’s there).
*Admin note: Nate I uploaded and posted the pics for you ;D great job tracking your progress!*

That’s a very extreme turnaround in such a short time Nate, great job bro! I want to thank you so much for taking the time to share your results.
Your lips look like they are almost back to normal
way to go!!!
Thanks, Nate. Please continue to update us on your status. Let us know if eating junkfood over the weekend set you back. I wonder if you need to start over again like it is day 1 of the diet.
hey guys,
I feel your pain! I’ve been suffering from this problem for 2 monthes due to an allergy to antivirals. My lips swole right after applying it and taking it orally. Then they began to get yellow crusting. After all this has passed i noticed my lips were stuck in a cycle of looking normal, then peeling, and so on. After many visits to doctors and prescriptions of steroids, antibiotics, etc I stopped and decided to work on this problem myself. If people can heal serious health problems through diet and exercise (e.g. my dad cured his serious arthritis, and my aunt reversed her cancer completely!) I’m sure we can all heal ourselves from this non-fatal yet very frustrating problem… So far I have used this website as a diet guide along with other research done on foods and exercise. I have been on a strict diet for 1 week and so far results seem to be quite good! I’m also taking L-lysine 2000mg a day. Has anyone tried doing this???
my lips look normal to the outside eye (since i maintain appearance by getting rid of light crusting). However it is a B**** to eat or drink anything (i use a straw to drink) and random light burning is sometimes a reminder of my condition.
Anyways thank you so much for creating this post, we need more awareness of this problem! Please keep one another updated on any progress
Good Luck to everyone!!
@ Nate,
How are your lips doing now??
I have had a problem w/my lips for just over a year. Started out with very severe chapped lips from a medication. Discontinued the medication and the next thing I knew I woke up one morning and my bottom lip was twice the normal size. It then began to ulcerate and then later peeled. Since that time my lips have never been “normal”. They always feel wierd… never soft and supple. This has happened countless times over the past year. I know it is coming because my lip gets a “tingly” sensation and then kind of a burning sensation the night before. Usually the next day I wake up with a huge swollen bottom lip. I usually have a feeling of under the weather while this takes place and swollen glands in my neck. Whole process lasts about 2 to 3 weeks. Have been checked for herpes -negative- I am so depressed i can hardly stand it. Did you have any of these symptoms? I have been to 5 doctors… now they want to do a biopsy. Any advice?
Thanks,
Sil
Update on lips/progress.
As of today they don’t look as good in the photo, which I’m sure is a direct correlation after eating some bad food and not exercising properly. I was also in the sun all day about a week ago while white water rafting (lots of fun), but my lips got a really nasty sunburn and now they have some blisters (not so fun!)
During week three my lips looked the best, but I also started straying from the diet and yoga, and I ate out with friends and cooked some steak, etc. Last week I was on vacation out of state, and I tried to eat as many fruits and vegetables as I could, but most of the time it was cereal for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch, etc.
I’m definitely not back at day one though (excluding the sunburn blisters). This condition like any chronic disease is a slow process. I slowly started to see results of healing, and peaked out during the 3rd week, which was directly related to the previous 2 weeks of proper eating. My lips peeled a very thin layer of dead skin one time during week 3, and then again during week 4 while on vacation. But now I’m slowly starting to see my progress reversing and more dead skin is slowly building up. Thanks to the nasty burger and the deep fried Chinese food.
The good thing is I know what I have to do, it’s just a matter of sticking with it.
It’s starting to really “sink in” that this condition is not just a problem with the lips, it’s a whole body, mind and soul thing. Last week I had a ton of energy, and I felt great mentally and spiritually. Now that I’m back from vacation, I’m starting to feel sluggish and a little hazy. But it makes sense, If I’m eating live food that is grown freshly from the earth and sun, I feel alive and well. As soon as I start eating the standard American diet, which is all dead/cooked/processed food, I feel not so alive.
I know this is a long post, but I also wanted to start a discussion on detoxification effects of the diet. If anyone else has experienced any detox symptoms, they are actually good signs that your body is getting rid of all the toxins that have build up inside over the years. The first week of the diet I started to get slight headaches and rashes near my collarbone, and my body started to feel different in certain spots, especially my knee caps. After that first week it is wasn’t so bad and everything cleared right up. I’ve also read somewhere that it can take months or even years to truly detoxify and get the body in top notch condition.
I’ll keep updating, and come back with some more pics in the future!!
Man..thats crazy…i had resided that my 10year battle of this peeling cycle will continue 4eva! wow…i guess im still a non believer and cynical bc doctors have actually made me give up!! but this is really really re-assuring thank u sooooo much admin for taking the time to even care for other ppl who may be suffering the same as u…and for Nate u are an inspiration for all of us…plz keep us posted….i guess its time i start educating myself on food!!!! keep up the good work guys..WE NEEEED UUU!!!!
Has anyone’s lips improved without eating the coconut?
And Montreal Homegrown, just wondering if your college major is related to the health field. You rock.
My lips improved tremendously!!! I didnt eat the coconuts however I rarely applied natural cold pressed virgin coconut oil to my lips.. to tell you the truth i’m not sure if that had anything to do with the improvement since I’ve also been using vitamin E topically, kept a healthy diet (although broke it twice), lots of water, and *L-Lysine*… Oh and Vit A capsules as well as omega 3… supposedly good for skin.. I hope these results are not short-lived!
Keep it up guys! EAT HEALTHY! seems to be the common indicator of progress… I also believe everyone with lip problems should be on L-Lysine (i use the SISU brand) at least on 2000 mg a day…
GOOD LUCK!
OHHH and i forgot to mention, I eat bio-K yogurt.. nutrition specialist told me to drink 1/2 the bottle a day.. I’m on my 10th day now… TRY IT! no harm can be done.
grrr another error
… its not bio-k yogurt.. it is a probiotic.
L-Lysine helps with collagen production in skin so I will also try that.
I tried L-Lysine a long time ago with no help but pretty sure I was not taking 2000 mg/day…might be worth another try, however, SISU is a Canadian company so would be quite expensive to order in the U.S. I will need to do some research.
@Nate…thanks for all your input….the more info. the better!
Hey, i been suffering for about 9 months already. I’m starting this plan in about a day or two. Do you think the bell peppers are neccasary, i’m not really a big fan of them. also, do you think if i took a body cleansing kit, i got from GNC, it cleanses your colon, kidney, and liver, would affect this diet? i assume it could only help, not hurt the cause. I read you said something about a probiotic before, would you recommend taking probiotics or not? I’m so relieved theres hope to overcome this ! Thanks for the information and the read. Would smoking a couple cigarettes a day affect this diet?
@Jacob bell peppers can be subbed out for another green vegetable, not a problem. Body cleaning kit, probiotics and other supplements should be OK but its really the diet changes the cause results.
Smoking definitely contributes to the peeling cycle because it depresses your immune system, I used to smoke a pack a day when I first got exfoliative cheilitis.
Overall I think just making the diet changes will give you significant results but you should try and quit smoking either way.
@Lovely way to go!!! Don’t worry as long as you don’t have a problem following the diet long-term you should continue to see promising results
I offer my sincere thanks to you for your thoughtfulness. I just chanced upon this site. I am having this ‘condition’ for past 10 years.
After reading this I regained hope that I could yet again start the fight.
Just few queries ! I am a vegetarian so meat is a no-no and Quinoa isn’t available at my place, can you suggest some substitutes ?
is coconut oil cumpolsury ?
should we also avoid pulses, porridge, sprouts and whole grain flour ?
Hi Optimistic, since your a vegetarian you have special dietary needs that I’m unfamiliar with. On the upside eating too much meat is a huge trigger to the peeling so I guess you don’t have to worry about that one which is good. On the other hand there are still lots of foods/substances with no meat that trigger peeling.
Are you able to eat eggs? if so you should try and eat them at least once per week. If your not against a bit of salmon, trout, other fish once per week it would give your body some much needed nutrients and essential fats.
I would say coconut oil is better then 99.9% of other oils on the market, you can try a substitute like organic cold pressed olive oil but you might not get the same results. Your goal should be to avoid bad oils and only take in good ones. Regardless what kind of oil you use make sure its 100% organic / cold pressed extraction process.
Rice is a suitable alternative to quinoa.
Since your vegetarian you probably need a lot more beans, lentils and grains then the rest of us but just remember, only eat fruit from morning to mid day, eat lots of RAW foods, avoid too much cooked food and avoid the trigger list as best you can. Then you should be set.
Does this diet help to get rid of the white film on tongue? Did you have that?
Gosh, now I realize I have had a white tongue on and off for years. I have read other posts mentioning having a white tongue. Also for years periodically I develop pockets in my esophagus (esophageal diverticulitis) which trap food which in turn stays there and affects my breath. I’m thinking this diet or as I call it a “new eating regime” will help. I’m gearing up to start in Sept.
After a week and a half I have seen improvement in my lips but very slowly. I do have to admit it is very hard to keep up with your plan. There are times when I simply cannot follow the diet due to events, emergencies etc. Being that I do not have enough money to buy everything on the list, the main things I buy are salads, bananas, grapes, strawberries, melons and chicken breasts. That is pretty much all I could afford. I also have to add on that I am also taking Oxypowder for my constipation that I’ve had for quite sometime. Not really sure if its the food or the oxypowder that is helping (started oxy the same time as the plan) I definitely believe that this condition is an intestinal/inner problem.
Admin, I have one major concern. Before I started the plan I was at 135 lbs. After 1.5 weeks I now weigh 128 lbs. I am really worried that eating 6 portions food which is a majority of veggies and fruit will bring me to an unhealthy weight. Being a guy as well as working out, I don’t have enough energy than I did before without enough protein and carbs in the diet.
Hi.I have been having this problem since 5 months now and I have started taking it seriously only since a few days back.Ok…So I just wanted to know if one glass of milk per day would be ok…Other thing is I can’t stick to your entire diet plan because of my work schedule and also because I am a vegetarian. So if i try to follow it as much as possible, will it work? Also if the skin looks really bad is it advisable to pull it off? Also ellaborate a bit on the breathing exercises…
Hi JP, to get rid of constipation simply eat lots more raw food and drink more water, eat less meat and grains.
if you want to gain weight do it the right way and build lean muscle by starting a proper weight training regimen, just don’t train until failure unless your able to recover quickly. you weight 128? how tall are you?
@yes – 1 glass of milk should be OK if you insist on drinking it but its definitely not required or recommend. just make sure you drink it when your stomach is empty and wait 30 mins before consuming anything else. See comments above why not to drink milk. I cant say for sure following ‘most’ of the diet will give you results because thats too vague on what bad foods you would be eating. if you are still causing immune flare-ups by eating pizza and fries that means a build up of peeling skin. Will get some info up on breathing exercises soon, just do lots of cardio and work your abdominals in the meantime its equally as good if not better. the basics of breathing exercises are to deep-breathe out of your stomach rather then your chest.
@anonymus – yes this will clear up the white coating on the tongue. It seems to be a results of improper food combination or eating dairy. My tongue never has the buildup unless my diet slips, once I clean up my diet it goes away in a day or two.
hope that helps you guys, good luck!
Admin, appreciate your reply. Thanks. I’m 5′8″ btw.
Hey thanks a lot.I forgot to ask u 1 important thing.I have been put on steroids for 10 days by my doc…So just wondering if the diet plan u mentioned would work along with the steroids.Anyway I will try to follow the diet and exercise plan u mentioned and get back to u in a week..
…For breathing and Yoga I do wii fit…no formal class involved and it includes breathing, stretching and some cardio. This might be helpful for someone. The more input the better
Montreal, you left out the detoxification part.
What do you think of enemas and liver flushes?
@JP – no problem, glad to try and help.
@Yes – why did the doc put you on steroids? diet won’t effect it.
@Sonrise – thats a great idea!
@Vernon – your right, sorry about that I’ve been kinda slacking on finishing the site. When doing this diet you might notice lightheadedness, rashes or other detox symptoms that appear but they might not be very noticeable. This is result of toxins being pulled into the bloodstream for elimination at a rapid rate.
Once you take the burden off your digestive system your body will focus on important tasks like detoxing which might cause you some short term symptoms.
enemas – no go for me, don’t like the idea of the procedure. diet change does the same job of cleaning the colon and lower digestive tract. enemas eliminate all bacteria both good and bad, your body relies on some of that stuff so it can cause imbalance.
liver flushes seem ok and could be worth a shot.
I don’t have all the answers I just know that for sure diet works to slow and even stop the peeling cycle
I have been on this diet for about a week now. I have had ec for 15 years now. For the first time it is finally healing better than it ever has. Thank goodness for this site and how it has helped me.
What I have noticed: this diet is a fairly good anti-fungal diet. It is almost a candida diet. In fact, I strongly suspect that is what prevented my lip from healing. I had white spots in my mouth that I do not have anymore. Like Lovely did, I suggest a probiotic to supplement. Also, try taking lots of vitamins and cleaning your lips/mouth up to 4 times/day.
Thank you again for this wonderful site. I work on websites so if you want any help just email me
I have this condition on my lips. I was wondering if anyone else has redness under their bottom lip. I have a dark red line under my bottom lip. Is this normal with this condition?
Hi..Can I include breakfast cereals like Kellog’s corn flakes in my diet?Would they interfere with the healing process?
@john – that might be from licking your lips excessively, I think i had something similar. once you start the diet you should naturally stop licking your lips because they wont feel dry or irritated anymore.
@yes – cereal is best to avoid. don’t even think about eating cereal with milk for breakfast because that will keep your lips peeling and its also setting you up to crave eating lots of heavy carbs all day. see diet tips above.
This might be tough for me since im diabetic but it’s worth a shot. My doctor wanted to cut my lip open to seeif she could find the cause but I already knew she was giving me false hope. I have one question though. This started about 3 years ago. I think it’s because of my unhealthy diet but 3 years ago I switched my diabetic medication which makes me feel awful. I can’t use my old one because they discontinued it, so I’m kind of trapped. Should I stop using chapstick? And would multi-vitamins be useful? Hopefully this problem will go away soon. I just started senior year and i am seriously afraid of approaching any girl.
Abobo thats great congratulations!!! im really happy for u! ive had it for 10yrs and i live at home wit mum (who cooks yum stuff!)..so unfortunately im taking my time to fully adjust!
can u let me know wat are u actually eating for lunch (specific ingredients would help) and for ur dinner meal???
Are you also following the ‘food combination’ guide strictly??
Also are you taking pro biotic yogurt? if so…when is the best time to take it???? (lunch, afternoon, dinner? after meals?)
Thanks guys! keep the info coming!
Good website.. i put a link to here on my website http://www.stackway.com/search.php?search=exfoliative%20cheilitis&s=0 .. i’ll be doing this when i start college… i’ll be buying my own food in that situation so it’s better than my mom cooking for me. Thanks Mont
admin..do u consider melon type ‘things’ as vegetables or fruits? i know in the food combination chart it states eat them alone, but are they fruits or vegetables? and when is the best time to eat them? ie, morning as a fruit…or post lunch as vegetable???
Thanks again
What should I put on my lip to make them soft so I won’t crack my lips when i try to talk?
someone mention avoid process food and drinks, is drinking bottled apple juice and bottled coconut juice ok?
@redson – search Google for “natural cure for diabetes” and start researching. I would avoid any topical creams or lotions once your a few days into the diet, once your diet changes your lips will no longer feel dry or irritated and you wont need them. As for meeting women.. just read http://www.pick-up-artist-forum.com/ ;D
@deez – nice site, thanks for the backlink, much appreciated.
@vinniek21 – melons are considered fruit but like you said they should be eaten alone because they don’t digest quickly if you eat other fruit at the same time. first thing in the morning is a good time to eat melon or 30-40 mins after eating other kinds of fruit.
@lisdisorder – the problem with bottled juice is pasteurization. its a heating process that kills all living enzymes. since we have digestive problems its much better to drink fresh juice that still has the enzymes. make sure you drink 90-95% water throughout the day 5-10% other liquids (juice, green tea, etc).
HOLY ****! IT’S WORKING!!!!! Although my lips still are kinda messed up they look and feel much better. They no longer peel every 2 days like they used to. My upper lip is nearly back to normal. Just wondering how long did it take your lips to heal?
Will going out and having some beers ruin this diet?
Ok, I have a few questions
1. My lips have stopped peeling but ihave a lot of skin on my lips. What should I do about it?
2. How long should it take for my lips be fully healed?
3. Which is better: bottled water or filtered tap water? I heard on the news bottled water has traces of chemicals from the plastic mixed in. Filtered tap water has white particles floating in the water. I looked into it further and my water supplier said they are just calcium deposits and are actually very good for people. I changed my filter 3 times but they are still showing up; although, they are less than the amount I had with my original filter.
Hi All,
Thanks for this site. I am from India and suffering from this peeling cycle from last 10 years..
I am complete vegetarian.. So I cannt /want to eat eggs n meat.. Also Dairy product like milk ,butter are must for me.. I eat them daily..
Can you guys help me built a vege-diet plan.. I would be very grateful
Lets pray we together win over this really depressing disease..
Cheers !
Hey Montreal, its joeschmo88 here. I don’t know if you remember me from earlier this year from curezone. As sad as it sounds, my EC is still going on. It started all the way back in January and was getting slightly better in May with my diet but for some reason healing started to plateau. I’m happy to see that you’ve healed yourself of this condition. I’ve been eating healthy this past summer but did not follow your eating schedule 100%. I’m back in college and my schedule is not as consistent than it was in the summer. I “officially” started your plan on 9/9/10 and so far its been a week but it is still difficult to follow it exactly because of school. There is one thing I noticed; my lips during the “buildup” days is a lot harder than it was before. Usually around day 3 I would notice a thinner type of peeling, I could just splash some water and peel off without pain. Now it is thicker and is more attached to the skin. So when it comes to peeling, it’s quite difficult. The color is still white after brushing teeth or showering, some times discolored due to food. It still has a “sticky” feeling when in contact with liquids. I honestly feel like I’m stuck with this condition until I find what works for me. Lately I’ve been very depressed and unhappy with myself because I’m unable to eat what I enjoy, go out, talk to people without them disgusted by my lips. It’s honestly taken over my life the past year. I don’t know what else to do. Now with school, I’m more embarrassed with it. What else can I do? What exactly did you start noticing when you were on the diet Montreal? I appreciate any advice. Thanks.
Hey Joe!
If your lips peel skin that is really hard and tears and bleeds it means you need lots more water, lots more water based foods (fruits / vegetables) and smaller portions of grains, meats and things that dehydrate you. Also remember less cooked food, more raw.
If the peeling is still going you are still ingesting food and drink that is causing your immune system to flare. The main things to avoid are bad oils and processed sugar (just think about how many foods have bad oil and processed sugar..) along with the long list of things you can find above.
Its really not easy but if your able to follow the diet and eat mainly raw foods you will notice your peeling will stop over time but your diet really has to be perfect.
Also make sure your eating lots of organic extra virgin coconut oil each day (2-4 spoons of it everyday) use it to cook and you can even eat it as a supplement without food.
The main thing you should be eating throughout the day is fruit, vegetables and stir frys but remember fruit only at the beginning of the day.
There are too many factors that play into it to tell you why your lips are still peeling, have you started working out at least 3x per week and doing breathing exercises/full body stretches? Ever work your abs or do cardio? Do you follow the diet exactly? Taking the coconut oil everyday? Avoiding the trigger foods?
Cheers
@ Mitesh – sorry I really can’t give you much advice since your vegetarian and you have special dietary needs. I think you should just apply some of the stuff from the diet plan and hope it helps.
Make sure your drinking LOTS of water, eating LOTS of raw foods,, avoiding too much spice in foods, doing exercise or a regular basis and all the other stuff listed above. you really have to follow it closely so apply as much of it as you can.
Hey Montreal,Im going to be starting clinicals next month for my program at school. One of the requirements for the clinicals is the flu shot. Do you think that getting the flu shot would have any affect on the results im getting from your diet.

hi mate, just wanted to say im so happy 2 have found this site, i have been dealing with this problem for about a year now n it has made me extremely depressed and non social.i knew it had something to do with eating alot of bread because my lips got alot drier and pale when id eaten a few sandwiches and/or toast earlier in the day.it all started after i had a big wknd on gear n used a chapstick with petrollium in it on my chapped lips. it seemed to have damaged my lips further and stopped them from healing for about a week so i did abit of research then went and bought a chapstik with no petrollium and tried that. it seemed to keep them from drying out less than the other but as soon as i didnt apply any my lips would dry out, crack, and redden on the inside. i continued trying different chapsticks/ lip balms/ointments for months but my lips seemed to become more and more reliant on being moisterised so i decided to kick the habit n let them dry out and scab up.man was i frightened by what my lips looked like for a few days. Then they finally seemed to start healing, i noticed a layer of skin had grown over the raw parts n that gave me hope, until the skin fell off. this cycle has continued for about 2 months, n i was convinced it was permenent and i’d damaged them 2 the point of no return.UNTIL I FOUND THIS WEBPAGE, ive been following the diet plan for a few days and have noticed big changes already. I.ve also started skipping once a day and a range of other exercises.I cant thank you enough, im only 19 and it has stopped me from working, eating out in public, or goin out if it wasnt necessery. The social paranoia this condition creates is insane, u feel like everyones lookin at your lips n givin u shit and little hints to peel skin off etc.Not a way to be at 19 thats 4 sure.So thanks agian mate and goodluck to every1 else with this condition, i feel your pain!!!!!!!
cheers
For those of us who have a hard time taking coconut oil is this an acceptable way to take it? http://www.iherb.com/Health-Support-Coconut-Oil-Diet-120-Softgel-Capsules/9792
Going to start 10/1 and will give updates as I progress.
Hi Oklahoma, I would say the flu shot is a very bad idea, formaldehyde, thimerosal and mercury are three of the most powerful neurotoxins and carcinogens you can ever take into your body and they can all be found in the flu shot:

@Jdslik – Hey man, I’m really glad you see the connection beween the food you eat and the peeling cycle, thats a huuuuge step in the right direction! Way to go
cheers
@Sonrise – I think that product looks ok, it says organic, cold pressed extracted, virgin, unrefined so it should be ok. You might end up paying alot more using that over time though. Try looking for the coconut oil that is all of the above but is also tasteless and uncented. I know Nutiva makes some.
sorry to bother u agian, just got a cuple things i need to clear up. is ther a limit to how many eggs i can eat per day/week? cause to b honest eggs r probly the most tasty thing in this diet to me.Also will using vegetable oil (maximum once per day,and only a very small ammount) for cooking have much of an impact on the work im putting in? only because my old lady cooks dinner and i dnt realy have a say in what oil she uses haha.
cheers
oh and is it OK to take 2 fish oil tablets every morning along with a multivitamin? soz bout duble posting i 4got all about it n wanted to make sure its fine.
thanks
Hi everyone!
I’ve had EC for about 3.5 years now, and only since the last year or so have I tried doing various ‘treatments’ to cure it. I used to put vaseline on nearly 4-6 times/ day to avoid my lips getting dry, which they very oftenly did after talking excessively or breathing heavily.
I have tried following this lean diet since about halfway August this year. Untill 1.5 week ago I have been doing it wrong though. At the moment, however, I am certain that I am doing it right. Nearly everything I eat, and don’t eat, is according to these guidelines. I also exercise about 3 times per week at the gym, doing cardio (stepping/ running/ cycling, and about 35 stomach muscle exercises).
I must say that my lips have improved tremendously! In stead of the usual 3-day peeling cycle it is now down to about a 7 day cycle (alhough different portions of my lips peel off at various points during this time). I’m sure that no part of my lips peel more than once in this period. Also, my lips don’t nearly dry out as fast anymore, and I have stopped using vaseline or other ointments since start of september. Lastly, the skin that peels off is much less thick than before, so the amount of skin building up is definately reduced.
However, there are a few things that I do a bit different from the Admin:
-I do breathing exercises on days that I don’t work out in the gym (about 10 mins/ day)
-I take supplements to get enough essential vitamins and minerals (especially iron) (this 1 supplement contains them all).
-I have not been able to find 14 grain bread anywhere in this region, so I am eating 7-grain bread that is free of white flower. I eat this every other week. I use this to substitute for the 12 o’clock rice, every other day in that week.
-I do not eat coconuts or quinoa seeds, but I replace them with other veggies and rice
-I make sure that I eat at least 2 large spoons of Virgin Cold pressed coconut oil every day, I do not ingest any other oils
-I do not clean my lips in any way, even when showering I make sure no water touches my lips. I mostly drink lots of water through a straw (about 10 glasses/ day), and occasionally green tea
That’s all deviations I currently have from the Admin’s diet I can think of right now.
My big question is: Am I on the right path? I know that the effects this diet has on my lips are all beneficiary, but I am unsure if things will keep improving like this. This is important to consider because in 3 weeks I will follow my old diet again, however I will cut down on sugar and white flour then. Since I am soon doing some job interviews I want to make sure things don’t get much worse all the sudden!
Admin: would you recommend doing some things more ‘your way’ so that things may improve faster?
By the way my coconut oil is from Medison (www.medison.org), It’s all natural and unrefined, no additives.
Hey Montreal I too am a victim of the cold dry winters up north. I am 19 years of age and for as long as I can remember I have always licked my lips to subdue the dryness. To be honest I can’t diagnose a time when this EC shenanigan started. I remember when I was 16 I ripped a chunk of my lip off and to this day I have a tiny scar there. It’s really not that noticeable unless I tilt my head back. Despite that my lips seemed fine all through out high school. I do remember though during swim season peeling it a little obliviously. EC though was brought to my attention spring of last year. I was in the desert and my lips were hardening like crazy. I was unloading tons of chapstick on it which I soon found out was not doing the trick. It made my lips extremely delicate and susceptible to skin erosion. Since I was at school and couldn’t afford to be humiliated I just exfoliated every morning with a towel. I rubbed my lips till it smoothened out. This was not a good idea and delayed my healing process. When I was back home from school in May I had to unfortunately continue this for another month. I had to give my regards to family members which made it difficult for me to just settle down and let it heal. In June I completely isolated myself from society. I kind of came to my own conclusion that the best way to let it heal was to do nothing. I figured like any other injury my lips were just scabbing. If I picked at it, it would only get worse. Personally I think my time with EC has been blessed by God. I never really desperately researched this and it so happened by chance I stumbled here. Mostly my own intuition told me what I had to do and if I persevered it would heal naturally. Hopefully by sharing my own experience some of you can get another perspective on rejuvenating your lips. Also I am not a doctor so please bear with me if I don’t use the correct terminology. The condition of my lips was not unbearable like some of the pictures but it was pretty bad. At least 2/3 of it was crusting.
June for me was a lot of experimenting. At first I didn’t want to take a shower for days. I even went as far as not taking one for a week and a half. To calm my anxiety I just played video games. I don’t know if it was delusional thinking but I perceived water as harmful. If I wanted to drink something it was always out of a straw. Also I avoided foods like spaghetti to prevent the sauce from moistening my lips. Everything I ate was bite size. This month was very depressing for me. My future was uncertain and I was almost convinced that this was permanent. I would say for the duration of this month my lips stayed extremely crusty. It was also very thick and my lips were very uneven. Different parts of my lips were more damaged than others. Toward the end of the month it became impossible to smile. I had kept a straight face so my lips were not elastic. To combat this I started smiling as much as possible. Smiling made the dead skin crack apart. Nevertheless it still retained itself on my mouth. I would just trim the areas that were dangling and let new skin resurface. Again this new surface would crust up and the process would start all over again. There were some doubts at first that this was not the right method but as time went by it became easier to smile. The best way to explain it probably is I was slowly expanding my lips to its regular size. Before I think from all that exfoliating my lips were just compensating for the lack of skin. As simple as it may sound this was all I really did. At first a lot of areas were sunken in. As time went by and the layers underneath healed my lips started to become more fuller. The crusts were not as thick and began to callus not protrude. My lips have been slowly healing from outside in. A couple things I recommend are trimming your lips. Your lips need air to breathe. Drink water because it helps boost morale. Don’t put any creams on your lip. Reside in a environment with decent humidity. Anyways I’ve been continuing this regimen for the past 3 months and a half months. In a month it is only going to get better and by November I can almost guarantee by current patterns that it will be fully healed.
hey mate, hav found answers to my above q’s so its all good, i also went to the docs’s and was diagnosed with iron defiency anemia…. THIS IS THE CAUSE OF EC FOR ME!!!!!!!!!! ive been taking ferrograd-c for a cuple days along with continuing the diet and exercise and ill tell now mate i rekon my lips will be 100% in another cuple weeks, they have healed so much already!!!! im absolutely ecstatic….CHEERS
That is quite logical. This diet is poor on iron (depending if you choose to eat spinache a lot as vegetable). I discovered this through the course of the diet because I started to look quite pale after 5 weeks of following the sort of ‘wrong’ diet (but still iron deficient). Since I am taking supplements to replenish my iron, my healthyness/ energy has restored and paleness has gone. Now I’m confident this diet won’t damage your health, but I’m not sure how long you _can_ follow this diet. I intend to do it for another 2 weeks and 2 days, because I think I might be heading to a stop of the peeling cycle.
So I would definately recommend to watch your iron levels, take supplements if you don’t trust it.
I’m starting your eating program tomorrow – issues I currently experience and hope to see improve:
1. Peeling daily (sometimes requiring cutting skin peels off) or scraping white build-up upon rising.
2. Dry cracked/peeling lips during the day, especially if they get wet.
3. Burning of tip of tongue and lips.
* All the above seem worse when I am very active or my body heats up.
4. White coating on tongue.
5. Very dry mouth…more noticeable recently.
Some info about me:
* I am female (retired)
* I have had EC for 4 years
* Tried all docs including 6 months with the Mayo Clinic and no one could give me a diagnosis
* I am currently on 3 medications for depression and nerve pain, which do help
* I use a steroid ointment morning and night which has allowed me to resume my life but at the cost of thinning my outer lip layer (and thus my peels are thin)
* My EC started with an error of recommended dosage of a cream for a basal cell skin cancer on my face. After much research and visiting the “curezone” site and this site I agree that it is an internal issue…mine probably a messed up immune system due to the med. and my severe allergic reaction to it
* I eat small bites, bypassing my lips and drink all liquid through a straw
* my iron levels are within normal range (checked past blood-work)
I have some photos but have no idea how to post them. I pretty much look like the “before” photos of “Admin”.
I plan to input often as I embark on this new program in the hope that it will help others. My goal is to stick to it strictly for at least 2 weeks and evaluate my progress. If there is improvement then I may add 1 thing at a time to my diet and watch for “trigger” foods.
We all seem to have different reasons for getting EC but at least I now have a name for my condition and the knowledge that I’m not alone. Thanks so much for this forum, “Admin”
Later……
Forgot to add…my saliva tastes bitter/metallic…sometimes worse than others
Hey Sonrise,
Be careful to at least ingest enough calories throughtout the day, this diet is very lean and make sure you eat according to your own needs. Under-eating, especially combined with your medications, could have severe side effects. I think that the two huge factors this diet will provide is loads healthy fibers, vitamins and some minerals, and lots of water. Personally i feel that these 2 have probably made the most of the improvements to my lips possible.
They still peel a little bit, but I’m not completely done with the diet yet (I’m currently using calendula-cream overnight to see if it has extra effect: current result is promising!).
Good luck on following it!!
I lost 6 lbs on this diet. Soda helped to keep 5 lbs on me. I look too skinny now. Do you know of any healthy foods you can eat that will keep 5 lbs on you? Soda was the only thing that kept the 5 lbs on me.
Michael, Thanks for your input…I will be careful. I had tried to get off my steroid ointment and used Calendula cream but I was not yet on this eating program so I wasn’t able to do it. One of my goals is to be able to stop using steroid ointment and then I will probably try Calendula again….I hope it continues to help you. Also, I have mentioned that I use Badger organic lip balm (Highland Mint) to moisturize my lips a bit throughout the day.
Just had my 1st fruit…YUM!!!!
Well I’ve given up on this diet. My mom is being a ***** and refuses to get any of the food. I guess i’ll have to wait until I move out. Thanks for the help though.
Well, its been 5 weeks for me with no change at all. Do you think its time to call it quits? I don’t mind being on this diet for the most part because I’m losing weight and eating healthy for the first time in my life but I would at least like to be able to treat myself to some pizza or something from time to time.
It’s only been a week for me. I feel like my lips are different somehow…maybe not as many major peels. But, I think I have a long way to go. Day 1 brought on a wicked headache (sugar withdrawal, I’m sure). I’m a bit discouraged by SK’s post. After that much time I would hope for a major change. I am very strictly sticking to shopping list #1….not sure when I can add some of the “acceptable foods” listed above. It would help having a bit more variety. If I see more of a change then my goal is to slowly stop using my steroid ointment…1 thing at a time. I find I’m least comfortable at the end of the day. Well, on to week 2 and will report back in.
@Nate…how are you doing?
p.s. SK…you deserve a pizza after 5 weeks! But then back on track…I already have my 4 week treat picked out
Just finished week 2 and, unfortunately, no appreciable change in my peeling cycle. It’s discouraging….not comfortable reducing the steroid ointment until I see some positive changes. I plan to stay on the strict plan for a full month. I do like the eliminating sugar and “white” carbs from my diet…I do feel healthier, for sure, but, the purpose was to see improvement in EC….also, I may be clucking like a chicken soon
…to be continued.
I have been doing the diet and here is my log for the 9 weeks experiment.
week1 no improvement
week2 no improvement
week3 no improvement, still peeling and wash off on 7th day.
week4 no improvement
week5 no improvement
week6 no improvement
week7 no improvement
week8 no improvement
week9 no improvement, still peeling and wash off on 7th day.
I see on the outside border of the lips where the normal skin and the lips touch, only 2% improved, but the rest of the lips are still peeling on a weekly cycle. When i eat i still have a white sticky slimy thick saliva that builds up on my teeth and around the lips. My lips still dry up and easily wash off on the 7th day. This is 9 weeks on the diet. Has anyone gotten better improvements?
Hey lipdisorder,
I just posted a reply to your post on curezone so I won’t repeat all I said on this site….just a little more detailed than I posted above. Would love to see more feedback on this site..
Hey everyone, sorry about the lack of responses the comment section is just building up too quickly for me to respond! That being said this is probably the last comment I will post unless significant updates or breakthroughs come to light.
*From now on I will simply be moderating comments and not providing any personalized responses due to time constraints. Both positive and negative comments will always be accepted as long as its not spam.*
It seems quite a few people have tried this diet with no success, which is disappointing no doubt. Still, I urge anyone who has not tried it to give it a shot and see if it works for you. Also remember this is not just “a diet” because all the other steps work as well,, so don’t skip out on anything; yes for the 100th time you have to eat the cold-pressed organic coconut oil and do exercise
The connection between food and the peeling is impossible to deny because I’ve seen how it affects my own lips and how it caused peeling time and time again by eating the wrong foods.
Since I’m not able to watch what you eat or see how you live on a day to day basis I can’t really address “why it didn’t work etc..” but would like to offer some final advice should it not work for you:
Final tip: I suggest you try eating nothing but water based fruits and vegetables for 1-2 weeks straight, no meat, no grains etc, just veggies if the protocol on this site doesn’t work. This is a surefire way to take the digestive burden off your body and allow it to get some healing done.
Good luck to all of you, please leave comments as you see fit and I will do my best to get them approved quickly!!
Cheers!
Hello Admin. Have you successfully cured yourself or allowed your body to heal your lips completely? You might of mentioned this earlier, but i don;t recall reading an answer from you. You have very good tips on your site and I have noticed that if i stop sugar consumption in my diet that my lips will slow down in the peeling cycle. My goal is to eventually slow the peeling cycle down until the cycle takes a week or so to complete and then down the line it will stop completely. I’m not at that point yet.

Admin, my timing is terrible. I found your site today and you made your last post 2 days ago! That being said, if you do have time to answer, I know you said no table salt but is sea salt acceptable? And I think the answer to my next question will be no, but just in case: Is soy sauce ok?
I’ve had EC for 12 years. I was on Accutane about 15 years ago and I attribute my EC to the dry lips created by the Accutane and then my neurotic behavior led me to pick and lick the dryness, eventually resulting in EC.
I am very active/athletic but I suffer many inflammatory disorders, sinus issues, shin splints, etc. I consider my issues more irritants than hinderances in how I live my life. But, that said, I have felt for a long time that my body was out of alignment so to speak. Until your website, I haven’t been willing to try to rectify it. For example, I actually think there’s a lot to be said for Ayurveda (I would be a Pitta) but I’ve never done anything to follow those teachings. I am very hopeful that your suggestions will help with the EC, and even if it doesn’t, I think it will certainly help with some of my other day to day physical ailments.
Thank you for all of your suggestions and guidance.
oh, and why are tomatoes bad? I had been eating them for the lycopene.
Couple of things that I’ve been doing to that help tremendously:
First, always expect the best outcome in life. Not just your lips, but anything that bothers you. The more positive your thoughts the better you feel. What you think about it what your life becomes. Your mind is the link to unlock your body’s potential to heal.
I look for Joy and Happiness in new places everyday (hiking, walking around campus, walking around my neighborhood and actually talking to my neighbors.) I also have been able to become more creative and enthusiastic just by realizing I have complete control of my reality.
Second, Superfoods make it easily to allow you to create a positive and healthful mind and body.
Vegetables in general are superfoods, but the real magic is in raw chocolate.
That’s right you can eat chocolate without any affect on your lips. It’s more expensive, but it’s worth it.
You can buy whole cacao beans at most health food stores. (The cacao bean is the original nut, that chocolate is created out of). Eaten alone it has a bitter flavor, but at the same time it has around 1,500 different flavonoids that you can taste and enjoy (but you must train your mind to tap in to those subtle taste buds to truly enjoy eating it raw like I do.) You can also get it in powder form, and mix it with raw honey or fruit as a sweetener, and cold pressed coconut oil or cacao butter. (Very Yummy) http://livesuperfoods.com/raw-cacao-nibs.html
I also use and eat Aloe Vera leaves (the actual plant itself)[you can buy it at WinCo]. Cut it open and scrap out the clear gel, straight into a salad or what ever you want to eat it with. I also put the gel on my lips and rub it all over my body. It’s the best thing for your skin in my opinion.
I recently found a local spring about 5 minutes away from my house, by searching on the website http://www.findaspring.com/
It’s is truly amazing. the water is free to the public, and it’s the best water to drink. You may need to filter it, depending on where the water comes from. but the alkalinity from the spring I found was right around a PH of 7 which is perfect. The great thing about natural spring water, is that is contains the natural minerals from the earth, which is essential for truly re-mineralizing your body (You are made up of 70% water or something like that, why not drink the best water?)
There is a whole list of superfoods to choose from, (that is if you got some extra cash to buy it)
This Website has so much good information, it’s ridiculous.
http://livesuperfoods.com/
The best Super-Smoothie you can make is from this list:
Choose the Liquid Base:
• Coconut water, Coconut milk, Almond milk, etc. Water (Spring water), Organic freshly squeezed fruit juice, orange juice, etc.
• Herbal Tea (15 super herbs, grown at home, blended in spring water).
• Aloe Vera
Choose the Powder:
• *Cacao powder or nibs/beans in a grinder
• Cayenne pepper powder or *live cayenne peppers
• Goji berries powder or *live goji berries when in season
• Maca powder
• Pure synergy powder (high herbal component)
• Spirulina
• *Marine Phytoplankton
Choose the Fat:
• Coconut Meat
• Raw Cashews
• Almonds
Choose the Sweetener:
• **Raw Honey
• Yacon Root Sryup
After you have decided what to use, throw it in a blender and blend that stuff (it will vibrate with a life-force from out of this world)
I truly hope for the best for everyone out there. If you can’t afford any of the food, don’t sweat it. (try growing your own food and herbs at home). Just do what you can, keep your mind positive and joyful, because that comes before food and doesn’t cost anything.
I wouldn’t say that it wasn’t successful. At one point my lips didn’t peel for 2 weeks. If I was able to continue the diet i’m sure I would have normal lips. As soon as I started drinking milk again my lips began to shed every 3 days. Licking my lips was a big problem for me. I asked my friends to count how many times i licked my lips in class. It was about 20-30 times in 87 minutes. I still eat fruits and vegetables but the bread i buy has about 26 ingrediants so that can’t be good for me. I started taking pictures of my lips since i restarted the diet. When I see improvement i’ll make sure to post them.
Hello Admin, i need your help..please i need your help. i want to thank you for creating this site to try and help those of us who are suffering from exfoliative cheilitis. well Admin, i’ve been suffering from ec for over 3 yeears. i still recall the moment i recognize that my lip was completely dry and when i step out the shower, they turned white and eversince then, the would peel off and repeat the cycle for the next three yrs. i dont really know what caused this, though i do remember before this ec condition i was suffering from a sever sore throat..and i dont know i this may be another faactor but i also hd a metal piercing right under the lowe lip. i want to ask if you think that may be the cause of it? if so..i also have a metal filling. thiss has been so hard for me. i’ve been to th doctor twice in the past but he gave me topicl steroid wich did not help. but anyways, i went on a diet about 5 monts ago and lost over 40 pounds. i was eating healthy by not eating jumk food and stopped drinking soda, i occasionally drink diet cok but stopped that also. i only drink water. i eat lots of sandwiches but only wheat bread. i also eat braided twists, i guess i falls into the pretzel catorgory. i eat grreen beans but they come in cans. well eversince i startd my diet 5 months ago, i notice some improvements on my bottom lip. the skin from the bottom is slowly starting to become normal. its healing very slowly. i also peel my lips every 3 or 4 days after i shower. i want to ask you how long did it take for your ec to completely heal? im also very depressed lately because my nephew is also suffering from ec. he is only 3 yrs old. is it possible that i might have passed it on to him..maybe its because he doesnt drink enough water and he only drinks sodas and juice, and he also is fed too many junk food like burgers and pizza. but is it possible that i passed it on to him? maybe if he changes his diet, do you think he can be cured from ec? pleas Admiin i am really desperate and in need of help. if you have any advice please i need to know. please this thing is causing me soo much depression and now i am also worried for my nephew. i really nneed your help….THANK YOU for reading.
hey admin…how are u doing? i wrote u a comment before this but i dont know why its not showing up…
Nate,
Are your lips healed now?
Sorry you have to wait to have your comment approved everyone I would put the comments on auto-approve but there is so much spam that comes through.
Quick answers to your questions:
@Taboosun – yes, 100%. no irritation or peeling, you can certainly do the same!
@Hopeful – Soy sauce ok, white salt is not. grey or celtic sea salt in moderation is ok. remember lots and lots of water.
In food combining tomatoes are fruits not vegetables and your not supposed to eat fruit with other foods because it impedes digestion which leads to peeling. More info:
Source: http://www.internethealthlibrary.com/DietandLifestyle/Food_combining.htm
Fermenting or undigested food in your digestive tract = irritation = immune flareup = peeling
@Nate – truly inspiring post bro, you’ve got the idea!
@Redson – just keep making changes to improve your health and over time you will see major results. its all about consistency getting stronger and healthier and not just diet but proper living as well.
@Lee – sent you an email. sorry about slow approvals, I haven’t checked the site in a month or so.
There are lots of tips I left out and still have to add – JUICING is huge if your able to do it and also have a bunch of other tips that slow peeling, will update soon just have an overload of projects at the moment.
also tap water is alright occasionally but not at all recommended; get a good water filter if you have some extra funds. will update soon with some recommendations.
Peace all.
Jennie,
My lips will heal when I’m eating mostly organic, fresh, ripe, fruits and vegetables. Eating as much fruit as I can for breakfast and lunch followed by plenty of leafy greens and other veggies that I care for, for dinner. There was a whole week last month where they didn’t peel at all. As soon as I start to stray from the fruits and vegetables, which I do (eating sandwiches and cereal, etc.), the peeling cycle starts back up. I’ve just been liv’in it up though, not caring whether they will ever completely heal or not (I’ll eventually be 100% committed, once the right circumstances are present in my life).
@ previous post.
As far as the superfoods goes, I’ll have to admit I got a bit hyped up experimenting with them in smoothies and stuff. The powdered form of anything probably doesn’t have any curable effects. Eating something like a goji berry, in it’s natural wholesome state, is what your body most likely needs, and not a processed powder form of it. So the superfood post was probably a bit misleading. I’ve found organic ripe fruits to be the most satisfying thing to eat, if I ever feel hungry I eat some fruit, which also quenches my thirst as well.
I was wondering why overweight people don’t suffer from this condition.
Also i noticed in my school a bunch of people have ec.
I made http://www.excheilitis.com
to help collect information on everyone with Exfoliative Cheilitis. Just fill in the front page one time.
Thanks
EC IS RUINING MY LIFE AND IS EFFECTING ME PSYCHOLOGICALLY. Btw, love this site. I’ll stick to the diets and I’ll give Dr. Shelton’s a try. I’ll also give updates!!
I’m hesitant about posting pics. EC makes me self-conscious about how my lips look. For me, it’s a social catastrophe. WORST thing that ever happened to me. Currently over it, but it gets to me sometimes.
Questions: Is this related to herpes? Viral? The candida live in your intestines forever? Any recommended lip cosmetics (balms, lipsticks, oils)?
I was just wondering if you ever put lip balm or chapstick on your lips while on the diet. If so, what kind did you use?
*admin response:* I haven’t used anything topical whatsoever for the longest time now
Hey Montreal,
We never spoke but I used to follow you on curezone. I’m so happy you found something that works for you. Since you left, curezone has been a lot quieter! I guess people are following your advice.
I know you said you won’t be answering questions, but I am hoping you or someone else can shed some light on this. What do you think about drinking apple cider vinegar to increase alkalinity? I know earthclinic.com is a huge proponent of this, for fighting yeast infections and for general malaise.
This is a sort of diet that will discharge the toxins that are present in the body that have been accumulated in the fat cells and will permit the body to emit them and purify your body. The main function of performing this is to Get better health. Feel more vigorous. Perk up immunity. Pick up your mental stipulation. Assist in digestion.Help with mass loss.
Hi, I’m facing this horrible problem.
SO basically the cure for you were heath meals and stay calm?
because I’ve been trying so many different types of balms..
thks
Are you completely cured?
Or only when you adopt this diet?
EC is messing with my head. i think im going crazy from it. everywhere i go people look at me & lick their lips. convos are hard to maintain. ever since i was younger i would lick my lips alot which my my lips extremely chappy & overtime made my top lip dark. but its only been recently (about a month ago) ive got so self concious about it. i guess because it became worse. personly i wet my lips & whipe the dead skin off b/c i cant take the shame it brings. but it keeps coming back, so i think ill use vaseline & let it heal. ill also try changing my diet. pray for me & ill pray for you, because no one should have to go threw this embarrassing disease
Once again sorry about the slow approval time for comments.
@nate – you the man!!! true inspiration to everyone reading I’m sure
@redson – yep, EC is becoming much more common because the food and drug industries are f’ing up everyone’s immune systems. I personally know 2 people with EC, 1 guys went away after 5-6 months without treatment though he lips still get blood red after eating (bad diet) the other still has it (he doesn’t care and is unwilling to change).
@64643 – sorry again about flaming up your site bro, was drunk and pretty rowdy after reading all kinds of stuff that the food industries been doing to our food. hope ya forgive me
@lady – I’m 100% sure it’s all to do with the immune system, basically the immune system is depressed or weakened and is attacking the lips causing the skin build up.
Avoid anything that lowers immunity, focus on anything and everything that boosts it.
@yve – hey man, ACV is great, I used to take it for a while when I was testing all kinds of supplements but slowly stopped cuz it felt like it was eating at my teeth. Definitely good for your health though, if anything I would just take the organic coconut oil.
@monex – *applauds* wooohooo! another one who gets it lol
@paulo – yea diet is key also drinking lots of water, just re-read everything above and try to learn and apply as much as you can to your life. balms will not do anything IMO, they can’t fix lowered immunity they just attempt to cover it up.
@andrade – I consider it a cure because I eat right everyday and my lips are normal again. the diet is my everyday diet, sure I cheat from time to time but I try not to mention that because you have to stay disciplined especially at first so you can see the connection between the peeling and what you eat and drink. bad diet for extended period my lips get dehydrated and peel, diet above my lips are perfect.
@grad – just toughen up bro, just stare them blankly in the face and try to stop giving a shit. other then that do the diet and drink lots of water, fix the problem…
“i think ill use vaseline & let it heal.” –> fail.. (see curezone for 1000 posts of people with the same idea, doesn’t work)
do the diet, get a water filter, drink lotsa water, eat and cook with the exact coco oil mentioned.. within a week your peeling cycle will slow or be gone. most importantly you will see exactly how and which foods affect your lips and immune system. you got my prayers, hope you get better. peace.
Has anyone heard of the 80/10/10 diet by Dr. Doug Graham?
Not trying to give it a review or anything, but it’s a good read. Gives you a whole new perspective on the foods human’s evolved from the beginning of our existence as a species and what we ate if we still lived in a tropical jungle/forest, with lush and abundant amounts of fruit along with leafy green veggies (spinach, and lettuce).
It’s also great, because its not just about eating healthy. It about how it’s possible to improve your athletic performance (world class athletes thrive on this diet), your social interactions with others, and a true appreciation for nature.
I also like it because it supports everything on this website. The correct foods are critical for true health, but food is just one of many factors, such as human interaction, play, sleep, etc.
But in the beginning of your diet, there were times when you had to peel your lips. So what did you put on them?
I’ll try this diet, but this isn’t the anti-candida diet right?
and also..
How does your EC started?
Mine started from accutane.
I guess if the cause is the same, maybe the cure can be too.
Accutane?! Have you not seen all the side-effects?
Mine started from Aldara (incorrect dosage)….some of these strong chemical skin treatments mess up our immune systems, I think. Been 4 years and still fighting the good fight.
I REALLY REALLY WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT KEFIR(MILK AND WATER) AND JELLO(GELATIN)WHILE ON THIS DIET….
Being on a detox diet will ultimately clean your body from all the chemicals and pollutants that you are exposed to in your daily life. If you go on for a detox diet once or twice in a year and also keep a healthy lifestyle in between you can get rid of these chemicals and improve your vigor and sleep. Regular small walks and outings are also vital for your physical fitness as well as mental health.
@ Sauce – just stick to the diet, no kefir.
Sorry guys comments closed, keep getting 500 spam messages to sort through even with askimet.
Everything is laid out in the blog.. just follow it 100% word for word and you will get results.
Peace.
